In 1981, the “Orchards Freedom Tree” at Orchards United Methodist Church was adorned with a yellow strip of cloth to recognize the final months of the Iranian hostage ordeal. The tree, which was thought to be over a century old, was removed in 2001 to make way for the widening of Fourth Plain Boulevard.
